One of the really wonderful things about Berlin is how accessible it is by foot and bicycle. The first few weeks we were here we rode the U-Bahn everywhere, thinking that if something took five minutes by subway, it should take 20 minutes by foot. This Los Angeles logic was dispelled many times over once the weather was nice enough to travel above ground. In fact, if something is five minutes by subway, it could easily be two minutes by foot, and probably one on your bike. For instance, it takes me half an hour to get to the studio from my house—if I am lucky with trains—but only 7 minutes and one left turn by bicycle. Hey Berlin, thanks for being totally and completely flat (except for those two hills Seth has been talking about, which I have yet to find).
Alice and I took to the streets for some exploring, only furthering our love for this city that seems to shrink progressively as we get to know it better.
We went to Alice’s first cemetery, which was actually pretty cool, considering how old some of the headstones were.
This watering can collection was pretty interesting also. I like how people bring their own and attach them to this rack with bike locks. Is this common?
Beautiful Kreuzberg cathedral.
Too soon? Not in Berlin. Although, we’re pretty sure this has been up for a long time.
