Last week’s Jay-Z show at UCLA’s Pauley Pavillion was awesome, because Jay-Z is a pretty awesome dude. But this show was of particular interest to geeky design folk like us because of Jay’s very cool new high-definition screen setup.
When I first saw the screen lit up behind the band I thought, “Wow, that is some really great 3-d motion work, it really looks like it’s bending around corners…” and as I got closer to the stage I realized that it was not a flat screen I was looking at, but a full cityscape of 3-dimensional screen towers making an incredible skyline of graphics.




It was completely impressive and everyone was pretty fascinated. Here’s what the pieces looked like when they were setting them up:
