Hello everyone, I’m the resident luddite who will be sharing designs that require your hands to get dirty. Don’t get me wrong, I like inDesign’s grid as much as the next guy, but sometimes there’s more to life than pixels. With that said, let’s look at the first studio, Sopp Collective.
Australian band The Falls had a limited budget but wanted something that would represent their natural sounds. Sopp came up with the idea to use eucalyptus and bamboo leaves to make the image of the band.
To do so they collected hundreds of leaves, sorted them by color, then proceeded to assemble them together-quickly, because the colors of the leaves kept changing.
“The problem with dried leaves was that they weren’t really flat but really light, they moved when other leaves were placed on top, under of on the side.”
In the end the project took three days. The final shot was done by using a ladder and Nikon. Understandably this project was probably a pain to execute but worth it in the end, no?
